The first is “Dash,” and as the name suggests, Ori can gain a burst of speed in the direction it’s facing. The new locations come with two new abilities which can be obtained. At the outset, Ori is rescued by Naru, a large being with a spotted belly, and these newly added locations explore her past. Each of these is designed to expand on the game’s lore. The Definitive Edition includes two new areas: Black Root Burrows and the Lost Grove. The gameplay features a mix of button mashing combat, platforming and puzzle solving. Ori will be required to travel to various parts of the forest (each sporting its own unique, hand-painted visual style), navigating hazardous terrain, death traps and different types of enemies in order to achieve this. The forest is dying and it’s up to Ori, a magical white-coloured feline-looking creature, and an orphan destined for heroics, to save Nibel from Kuro, a giant owl tainted in darkness. Ori and the Blind Forest is an action-platformer set in the fantastical forest of Nibel. With the release calendar looking thin this July, this might be the perfect time to dash back into the world of Nibel once again (or for the first time, as the case may be). The “Definitive Edition” of Ori, which released a couple of months back includes some much needed quality of life improvements, new locations, secret areas, abilities and more. Test out your new skill by dashing across to the right to pick up a Map Stone Fragment.ĭrop down and clear out the winding passage of purple slimes. Go to the Ancestral Tree to the right to learn the Dash ability. Drop down and place the Light of the Spirit Tree into the statue to light up the area. You can now jump up the last barrier and pull the switch to lift up the statue. Drop the Light on the second last platform and then jump across to the right. As you do the Light from the Spirit Tree will reveal barriers that will block the lasers. Drop down and run across to the right to the statue. This will open a wooden door down below.ĭrop down and go right through the door you just opened. Hop over the moving platforms to the top and when you get near a lantern you’ll light it with the Light from the Spirit Tree. Bounce up through the lasers to the top and go through another light door. Hop over the pedestals as they come up, to the other side. Hop across to the right and through a light door to grab a Spirit Light Container.ĭrop down to where you began and go right, through another light door. Go through the light door to the left and hop up the moving platforms all the way to the top right. You can’t use your abilities when you’re holding onto it but you will be able to get through the light doors. Jump across to the left and pick up the Light from the Spirit Tree. Drop down and then continue dropping down to the left, until you have reached the bottom of the burrows. You can reach this content early on in the game but the area is quite tricky.Īs you enter the Black Root Burrows you’ll notice that it is very dark! You’ll need to find a way to light this place up. You can get to it by jumping up the wall to the east of the first Spirit Well. The Black Root Burrows is part of the additional content for the Definitive Edition.
